Empowerment through Economic Development
Empowering individuals to create sustainable livelihoods is a key aspect of our mission. Through micro-loans, vocational training programs, and entrepreneurship opportunities, we have worked with men, women, and people with disabilities to start businesses and transferable skills, supporting their families and communities. Our initiatives have ranged from hiring women to make and distribute masks during the COVID-19 pandemic to providing sewing machines and establishing sewing centers, enabling individuals to gain valuable skills and income.
One significant aspect of our Economic Development program is the provision of micro-loans with no interest. These micro-loans have proven transformative, enabling individuals to start or expand their businesses. By offering financial support without burdening individuals with high-interest rates, we empower aspiring entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams and create sustainable sources of income. During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, our micro-loans played a vital role in helping people sustain their businesses and provide for their families, despite the economic uncertainties.
We strongly believe in restoring dignity and promoting inclusivity for individuals affected by leprosy and disabilities. These individuals often face social stigma and exclusion from society, limiting their opportunities for economic self-sufficiency. Through our initiatives, we provide them with viable sources of income and equip them with the necessary skills to become contributing citizens in their communities. By offering vocational training, job placement assistance, and support in setting up their own businesses, we empower them to lead fulfilling lives and overcome the barriers imposed by society.
The Young Women’s Leadership Training Program is a testament to our commitment to empowering the next generation of female entrepreneurs. This program offers training in entrepreneurial skills, including baking and tailoring, to over 28 young women. By equipping them with practical skills and business knowledge, we enable these women to generate income, support their families, and contribute to the economic growth of their communities. The program also instills confidence, leadership abilities, and a sense of empowerment in these young women, empowering them to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact.
Additionally, we have established sewing centers in underserved areas to allow individuals to learn valuable, transferable skills. These sewing centers serve as training hubs where individuals can develop their sewing and tailoring skills, opening doors to employment opportunities or even starting their own small businesses. By imparting practical skills, we empower individuals to become economically self-reliant and improve their quality of life.
